I’ve been reading Melissa Mohr’s history of swearing which is enormously entertaining, and also contains the best joke I’ve read in ages, where she quotes a graphic but euphemistic paragraph of Fanny Hill, and then states “This passage is actually about Christ’s love for his Church”. Maybe you have to have read the chapter on the Old Testament first, but it made me laugh anyway …
