part of Glasgow Cathedral Festival 2019
Reflecting on Scotland’s rich culture of ceilidhs and social dancing, Step+ brings together movement, music and spoken word in the relaxed atmosphere of Drygate Brewery. Specially produced for GCF2019, the project is a collaboration between Scottish stepdancer Alison Carlyle and early music ensemble Concerto Caledonia.
Step+ traces the evolution of Scotland’s dance traditions between the 1700s and the present day, depicting dance’s communities, people, and places, as it contemplates themes of national identity, loss and memory. Drygate is the perfect setting for the evening, with its intimate event space and huge selection of craft beers (and other drinks), just a stone’s throw from the cathedral.
