On Saturday’s Music Matters on Radio 3 you can hear me and Tom Walker in some Burns songs, recorded on Tuesday with the 1793 Broadwood piano in the 1812 Gallery of St Cecilia’s Hall in Edinburgh (not the 1793 Broadwood harpsichord I played on Mungrel Stuff, it’s sitting next to that one). It should be available as a podcast too: in fact if I’d known that beforehand I might have suggested we did more than one take of everything. The journey back to Glasgow via the pub was great fun too, and Tom Service put to rest my impression that the Guardian’s coverage of El Sistema has been nothing but uncritical starstruck gush. Evidence here and here.

Here’s a view of one side of this room in its current studio mode: note the harmonium pressed into service as a laptop table, and harpsichord as an acoustic baffle behind it.
