It was my turn to be on the Early Music Show this week: a repeat from three years ago, but it does feature Bill Taylor and Barnaby Brown on harp and pipes. Also in broadcast-land, Janelle Davis and Wendy Gillespie talk about our Mackintosh album in their WFIU Harmonia podcast.
I’ve just dismantled what was passing for a studio in my study, so that I could get the harpsichord into position for today’s rehearsal. In the first of our West End Festival gigs this week, Alison is playing lyra viol (I think we managed to restrict her to only three different viols in this concert), and Aaron McGregor is ripping it up in some late 17th century fiddle tunes from the Bowie MS, including the tune usually known as Bonny Christy: in this case it’s unequivocally Kirsty.
I also get to play some Orlando Gibbons for the first time in about 25 years; when I was a student I played little else.
That’s Tuesday lunchtime in the university chapel; then on Thursday we’ll be joined by Rachel Podger and Alfonso Leal for a programme of London theatre music in Cottier’s Theatre. We’ll be revisiting a few tunes from our Aldeburgh Purcell extravaganza in that one. Details of both, and links to the festival site here.
